Even before the pandemic hit in 2020, Macy’s announced that over a three year period they would be permanently closing one-fifth of their store locations across the country, roughly 125 stores in total. Department stores as a whole are struggling, and Macy’s is focusing all their attention on their most profitable locations.

We’re going to see 45 more Macy’s stores close this year, which is a depressing stat, but some of these stores have already started liquidation sales. Read on if you want to take advantage of these sales.

Some Liquidation Sales Have Already Begun

If you have a local Macy’s, check the list below to see if it’s forecasted to close this year. The following stores have already started liquidation sales:

  • California: Del Monte (Monterey)
  • Florida: Citi Center (Winter Haven)
  • Massachusetts: Cambridgeside (Cambridge)
  • Ohio: Lima Mall (Lima)
  • Oregon: Lloyd Center (Portland)

Other stores are expected to start liquidating merchandise as early as the end of January.

Sales are expected to last at least a few months, with discounts starting at 30%. Patience is a virtue, though – if you can afford to wait a little while for an item, prices are expected to drop another 10% every week or so.
